Here’s a quick little update from our class trip to Reclaim Arcade!
I was never much for arcades as a child because when I would go into them with my older brother, I would get overstimulated by all the sounds and flashing lights and moving people. Of course, now that I’m older I have a better grasp on all of that, but I was still nervous going into Reclaim Arcade.
Once I got inside though, I thought it was really really cool. The living room set up was sick and I spent some time in there looking around. I liked the aesthetic in there, and then I liked the simplicity that was actually in the arcade room itself. The neon sign was awesome and with the dark atmosphere, it sold the illusion of being transported somewhere beyond normal life. I hopped from game to game, not really knowing what I was doing, but then I spent a lot of time with Robotron: 2084. That game was SICK and had crazy colors and I was actually able to clear levels so I was having a good time.
I also spent a good chunk of my time playing with the pinball machines. The Iron Maiden one was my favorite. Overall, I had a better time than I was expecting to have and it gave me a better understanding of the atmosphere that arcades and gaming had in history. I have a good sense now of what the vibes and community experience can be like.
